USVI NATIVE CHEF THEO GUMBS BRINGS ISLAND FLAVOR
TO THE HALLMARK CHANNEL ON NOVEMBER 12
U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS (November 7, 2013)— The U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) Department of Tourism is pleased to announce that island-native, Chef Theo Gumbs, will be featured on The Better Show for a special USVI-themed cooking segment in time for the holidays. The segment will air nationally on the Hallmark Channel on November 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. AST and at 6:00 p.m. AST on WCVI. Chef Gumbs will prepare two Caribbean-themed inspired dishes that will help further position the USVI as a premier culinary destination.
The Better Show is a nationally syndicated lifestyle television program that reaches 87 million U.S. homes. The program touches on topics that affect families and relationships including a focus on food and recipes. Chef Gumbs will prepare Caribbean Pumpkin Fritters and Saltfish with a Citrus Avocado Cucumber Salad alongside co-hosts JD Roberto and Rebecca Budig.

He is an accomplished chef who has played an important role in raising the profile of the US Virgin Islands in the culinary world,” said Commissioner Nicholson-Doty. “Having an expert spokesperson on a national channel will no doubt engage the millions of viewers watching the segment. Chef Theo Gumbs is an internationally renowned Chef who is known for combining his love of regional flavors with world cuisine. A seasoned professional, Chef Gumbs has spent the last 15 years bringing local West Indian signature dishes to the forefront of Caribbean cuisine. He has served as an island ambassador while featured on national broadcast stations such as NBC’s Today Show, Canada’s CTV and CW’s Newsfix. Chef Gumbs has been an integral part of the St. Croix Food & Wine Experience which has been named one of the ‘Ten Best International Food and Wine Festivals’ by Forbes Travel for the past five years, where he served as a judge and a three time winner.
