U.S. Virgin Islands Featured in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue

St. John’s Caneel Bay Resort covered in nine-page spread; St. Thomian Hannah Davis makes cover

U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS (March 2, 2015) – The Department of Tourism (DOT) is thrilled the Territory has been featured as the only Caribbean destination in the 2015 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, which is currently available on newsstands and at SI.com/swimsuit.

The featured Body Paint section was shot on location at Caneel Bay Resort on St. John, where the resort’s pristine beaches and the beauty of the island were put on display. The section includes a full page on Caneel Bay and St. John, referring to the island as “a slice of heaven in the Caribbean sea” and reminding readers that “there’s more to the U.S. than the 50 states.”

The crew and models stayed at Caneel Bay during the shoot. In addition to body paint photos taken for the magazine, behind-the-scenes photos and videos of the crew’s time on St. John were secured and can be found on the official SI Swimsuit 2015 website. Models Rose Bertram, Hailey Clauson, Erin Heatherton and Genevieve Morton were featured in the section’s nine-page spread.

A behind-the-scenes journey through the creation of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit multi-platform edition can be viewed on Travel Channel’s website.

“The Department of Tourism is delighted that the Territory was featured in this year’s SI Swimsuit issue. The section on St. John and Caneel Bay highlighted the wonderful offerings we have here, and the DOT thanks all those who assisted the production while in the Territory. We look forward to more coverage for the USVI on such a grand scale,” said Commissioner of Tourism Beverly Nicholson-Doty. “We are also very proud that Virgin Islander Hannah Davis was featured as this year’s cover model. Hannah is a wonderful person to represent the VI, and we hope she can inspire young Virgin Islanders to follow their dreams.”

Virgin Islander Hannah Davis’s cover marks her third appearance in the annual issue, Davis was born and raised on St. Thomas, and still visits frequently. Her love for her USVI home has always been clear.
