Winner of Mission: USVI Vacation arrives in St. Thomas on July 28
ST. THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands, July 29, 2007 – The Department of Tourism is rolling out the red carpet for Kimberly Jones, grand prize winner of the Mission: USVI Vacation sweepstakes. Chosen at random from the over 10,000 sweepstakes entrants, Jones, who is a Realty Specialist with the Army Corps of Engineers, will visit St. Thomas from July 28 through August 2 where she and a guest will enjoy accommodations at the Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort & Spa, along with a rental from Avis Rent-A-Car and admission to a variety of exciting tours and attractions, including the St. Thomas Skyride to Paradise Point, a kayak tour from VI Ecotours and admission to Coral World Ocean Park.
In addition to the sweepstakes, the DOT partnered with Military.com from February through May to promote the Department’s Mission: USVI Vacation package. The package, which offered an incentive for members of the military to travel to the destination, included coupons for $100 dinner specials, a $50 shopping certificate, a $50 resort credit towards accommodations, $50 towards various activities throughout the islands. “The promotion with Military.com provided a tremendous opportunity to reach millions of consumers in an immediate, impactful, cost-effective way,” stated Commissioner of Tourism Beverly Nicholson-Doty. “What started as a virtually untapped market for the destination, resulted in widespread awareness amongst a group with incredible spending power.”
